If it dies at high speed also, I would be looking into a fuel filter. If only at low speeds I'd be cleaning the IAC.. Could be a number of other things but I'd be starting there. Big JIm

Are you getting the "Check Engine" light? Have you run the trouble codes? There's a lot of things (sensors mostly on these jeeps) that it could be but my best guess is that it might be your CPS (Crank Position Sensor). Mine went south once and my Jeep would not stay on without me keeping my foot on the gas all the time... swapped it out and no more problems. But again, BEFORE you spend money on the sensor or anything else run your trouble codes... On Jeep ZJ's just cycle the ignition key On/Off/On/Off/On within 5 seconds (you don't turn on the jeep) then the codes will flash where your odometer is located... it will start with "12" and end with "55"... any other numbers flashed inbetween will be your trouble codes. Hope this helps.

Marty Forgot to answer your other questions... replacing the fuel filter on ZJ's is a pain in the behind to put it lightly, you have to drop the gas tank as it's located IN the fuel pump that is located guess where... in the gas tank. The fuel pump is non-servicable meaning that you have to buy a NEW fuel pump to replace the filter ($200-300 depending on where you purchase it) so check your trouble codes before you go out and purchase a fuel pump. Front axle shaft removal on a D30 is fairly straight forward can be done in 15-30 mins depending on rust or other variables but if it's your first time doing something like this then give yourself about an hour or so. Word of advice, spray all the nuts and bolts you will be removing with WD40 at least a day in advance to loosen everything up, you WILL need a 12-point 13MM socket to remove the 3 hub bolts from the knuckle (nothing else will work and you risk stripping the bolts if you try it with anything else) and a 32MM or 36MM socket (can't remember the exact size off the top of my head) to remove the stub-shaft nut. Having a breaker bar will make this a whole lot easier of a project but it's not necessary. Fred R.

thank you for all the help guys i reall appriciate it and bj i found out what the iac is its right there in the throttle body i sprayed the trottle body out rally good with some carb cleaner and it seemed to help alot but not fix the problem i talked to a local mechanic i know and he said i need to clean the iac with mass air flow sensor cleaner cause everything else is to corrosive so i will do that today when she gets back for class. now on to the fuel filter it does have one in the tank but its only the sock filter that is on the bottom of the fuel pump. it also has an external filter that is located on the body pretty much right over the rear axle right? cause it has some sort of filter there and it looks exactly like a fuel filter if you ask me. and on changing my axle shaft would it be beter to buy new or used? i know that probably sounds like a dumb question but i know a guy that runs a small used car dealership and is in really good with a good junkyard and he can get parts pretty cheap and i didnt know if it would be a bad idea or not to just see of he can get me a used one from them or not. cause a new one isnt to expensive auto zone has one for around a hundred bucks but with me being the only one workin for now and we have 3 kids the cheaper the better. so any advice will help
thanks so much for all the help guys

Heck I'd go for a used one in a heartbeat.. THE RIDE WON'T KNOW IT AIN'T NEW! Very little to wear on an axle.. The JR wouldn't send your friend a bad one for sure. Big JIm

ok i ran the trouble codes all i got was a 12 and a 55 the check engine light isnt on so i went to the dealer and all they can tell me is to come in and have a diagnostic ran. but that was nothing new they just want your money. so im lost i have done everything but jack up the radiator cap and replace everything underneath it. the only thing i havent done yet is replace what looks like the fuel filer on the body under the damn thing. its starting to make me pretty mad cause i know im not stupid cause i do all my own work cause i cant really afford to pay someone else. would a burnt plug make it do the same thing cause i was checking the tranny fluid today like i do once a week and im under the hood and it dies just like i turned the key off. no spitting or anything just stopped running. so i dont know what to do here
but if you guys can think of anything else it would be greatly appriciated
thanks again

Ok so you have two of them... Go out there in the yard and swap the coils on the two vehicles.. That'll tell you if it is the coil... and they sometimes give similiar problems.. Big Jim
