Wagonmaster you are certainly giving me a lot to consider; what type of jump seat would you use? What model/platform do you think would have something that could be made to work in a SWB? Having had, and loved, the SWB Raider, I would be very intersted in this idea too, and also opens up the search parameter from just LWB Gen I's to SWB as well.

Here's some pics to get the juices flowing:

This is the driver's side rear of a Raider, with the side panel out and the carpet up. The square in the middle is where the 2nd row belt would sit, bolted down into the top of the wheelwell. The upper right corner looks like it may have been an ashtray option, perhaps.

[Linked Image]

Here you see the upper rear panel, with the 2nd row nut on the right, and a discoloration of the panel right above my finger.

[Linked Image]

Behind the panel, you'll find this hole, which (you'll notice) looks alot like the hole in the LWB version.

[Linked Image]

Unlike the LWB, the Raider uses this hole as an attachment point for the panel.

[Linked Image]

If it were to be drilled out to 14mm (from the 6.3 that it is now), and a REINFORCED seatbelt nut were put there, then the belt would fit like this:

[Linked Image]

While the belt roller would fit here:

[Linked Image]

And the bottom would bolt down here:

This could be done with all of the original 2nd row stuff in place, as it needs none of it.

I'll get some pics of a jump seat set-up tomorrow ('cause I'm kewl like that).

Rangers came with jump seats that I used to ponder about. Never actually measured one up. That aside, if you've ever seen an old LC 40, fabbing up a jumpseat from scratch wouldn't be that big of an undertaking.

Why fab from scratch when you can get genuine leather for $10 per seat?

This is NOT ready for primetime, this is just a mock-up. It will take a week, maybe 3, to perfect and install this system. I'm seeing an easy-in/easy-out system for the jumpers, with legal belts in every location.

This is NOT something I will have in my own rig, so it has to take a back seat (get it?) to my more pressing mods.

Soon, my friend...soon. Let me make sure they work first.

Now that I have a MIG and Plasma, I THINK I can even recreate SWB 2nd row shoulder belts (from an entirely other vehicle), more or less.

Oh, and by the way: It's "You're an ass!" not "Your an ass!"

Well, jumpers behind the stock bench is a total FAIL. There simply isn't enough shoulder room, though head room is OK.

Even kids wouldn't be happy back there. Mounting the stock bench further forward would kill off its legroom.

That said, I'm working on seeing if dual folding benches (one on each side) would work. I'll post pics this evening.

Also, if things go well, I'll have a good jump on the rear seatbelt mounting.

Wagonmaster, that is exactly the direction I was thinking of researching. IIRC the old International 80's and the old toyota troopers had bench "jump" seats. Again, leg room may be an issue though...

Will be waiting patiently smile
