Well JB your profile don't tell us what year that Jeep is! Nor do we have a clue what tires or gearing it has.. Give us some more info so we can help analize the problem.
What trips does the thing take? It is hard to get ANY milage if trips are shorter than 30 miles or so.
Put some information out here and the guroos will endevor to help.

first thing to do is get that k&n filter off that is actually causing problems.the oil gets into the throttle body and gums up stuff in there and makes its way to the engine along with dirt. That filter will do nothing for that engine as far as gains.

Now on to the fuel milage. You wont get much with a full time 4wd in the first place.you can possibly increase it by checking all your tire pressures and make sure they are at 35 psi.clean your throttle body,i am sure it is gunked up. change all your oils engine, front and rear diff, transfer case, and trans. those things will help but you still may not see very big gains. also check your egr valve hoses, sometimes they get carbon in them and cause problems.make sure your O2 sensor is working properly, they can send false info to the computer giving you poor milage.
as for the springs I don't know, personally i would stick with stuff that belongs.call it paranoia, safety or whatever , i just don't like the idea of putting something designed for one vehicle on another like that.

out of all the jeeps in this town the d**n gremlin had to invade mine

I've done so much, with so little for so long i can practicly do anything with nothing

well its a 93 awd with 235/75's on it not big or luggy or anything. the trips are usually short but sometimes i could go up to 100 miles depending on the day. 10mpg is about the most ive got out of it since ive owned it. theres no lift stock gearing and the 4.0L. just recently tuned up oil changed tires lined up and balanced. i just dont get it. why so low? i figured maybe 13mpg or a little more.

10 mpg right after a tune up does sound a little low. Your AWD is eating up some extra fuel, since the front axle is constantly engaged. Try it with the standard paper air filter and see if the mileage improves.

Also, if most of your miles are over 60 mph, that will reduce fuel consumption because even a grand cherokee isn't very streamliined. If you didn't have AWD, I think that 13 to 14 mpg would be a reasonable expectation.

Don't know how much the AWD is hurting your mileage, since I've never had one.

Bob, My Ranger, GMC and the tj have what I would call AWD.. All of them get execllant milage..compared to 4X4's of the past. The only handicap I can find with the AWD is the effect all the spinning mass has on the front brakes.
At first I thought the things would cause a huge loss in milage...but I am beginning to be a believer!!!
I'm thinking the slightly larger tires than stock have caused the odometer to be off a bit and the guys driving style causes the rest of the milage loss. I betcha he makes jackrabbit starts without allowance for the next higher gear.
I find with my AWD and even my wife's non AWD short trips cause a huge loss in milage due to the choke always being on durung the trips...
I have found these modern enggines to run correctly at all times...unless they need a tune and then they run like chit!
I don't know of an occasion where a nicely running modern engine was in need of any tune.
