Have a '01 Prerunner, have had the tires/wheels rotated and balanced still has a vibration. The carrier bearing has a little play in it, could this be the problem? Thanks.

Could be lots of stuff..I had issues with my carrier bearing, but that was right after lifted it, try a different shop and have it aligned first. An alignment could tell them if youve got some worn parts that can vibrate...

How long have you been using these wheels/tires?

About a year when all of this started. I had it aligned, balanced and new rear shocks put on last week. It is better but there is still a little vibration I feel on the armrest and now in the accelerator. THe carrier bearing supposedly has a little movement in it. The truck used to ride pretty well for a small truck.

Thanks.

Thanks. I just had it aligned and balanced, new rear shocks. This ahs been going on about a year. Even bought new rims and tires. I has not been lifted any. It is better after all of this was done last week but there is still some sort of shimming on the armrest and now I feel it in the accelerator some. There is a little movement in the carrier bearing but don't want to spend $400 if that's not the fix.

THanks....

If you feel vibration in the steering wheel its the front tires out of balance. If you feel it up through the floor and seat then its likely the rear drive shaft. Have you checked your u joints for slop? They more often than the carrier bearing are responsible for vibration. Sorry to hear that you already dumped a pile of money into tires/wheels and shocks when they probably were never the problem.

Try to find a shop specializing in drivelines/driveshafts and ask them for help in confirming the carrier bearing needs replacement.

Toyota wheels are lug centric and require the wheels to be mounted to the balancing machine using the "lug adaptor". If the shop you are using is using the "cone adaptor" to mount the wheels to the balancing machine you will always have vibrations.

Thanks for the article. I have not lifted my PreRunner but the carrier bearing has about 1/2" of play in it.
