I am looking to upgrade my stock intake and exhaust on my 93' toyota pickup. It is a 4x4 22re single cab, 4in susp lift, with 33"claws. Any suggestions?

For intake: I was going to install the K&N 57 series intake kit or the WR Secret Weapon. Is there any other suggestions

For exhaust: I am torn between buying the pacesetter ceramic exhaust and the thorley tri-Y. From there I am not sure what to do with the exhaust. Do I straight pipe it to an exhaust system or purchase a high flow CAT? Depending on the header I will buy either the pacesetter TFX Katback or the Gibson swept side exhaust.

Bottom line is I am up for suggestions as I am lost in what direction to go. I am also struggling to find any reccommendations online. Keep in mind this truck is my DD, but I plan on using it for trail riding and some offroad fun.

what is your goal with this mod? seat of the pants torque boost or high-rev flow capability?

what design is the pacesetter ceramic? 4:1 or tri-y as well?

I've found that a mild cam and Thorley Tri-y into stock cat and 2.25 out the back into a Flowmaster 50 Series Deltaflow works pretty well for better all around response. On the intake side, I have a Ramflow sponge filter, but that's because my truck is carbed.

With the stock air filter, I found that my truck choked off around 3k rpm.

Generally speaking, you'll need some backpressure or you'll lose bottom end torque, so given that this is a DD, I'd say go this route. I'm sure some other folks'll chime in here.

The pacesetter is a 4:1.

The main goal in mind is open up some of the restrictions from stock parts. I would kind of like to see a gain in both torque and RPM's. I know I can't have the best of both worlds. There is times right now where I do take it crawling (Nothing major, maybe someday) but I also like to sling mud (Just hate cleaning it up).

On the intake side, take a look at the pipe going bebtween the air box and throttle body. On my '89 Runner, I was bit surprised to see it actually shrank down to liek 2" or so before expanding again, the tube had a sepereate hose for the smog pump line which got in the way. I think this was only certain year, though.
IMO the only way you will get any real change on the intake saide is to really open the AFM and passage; best way to do that is get an early 80s Supra intake w/ the 3" inlet. If you get the righ year (82-82?) the pinout on the AFM cable is teh same, just plug it in. Now you can run 3" hoset he whole way in.
However, this will help only if the exhaust is also opened a tad. conventional advice seems to be that teh 4-1 styles put the power more in the higher RPMs, while tri-Y is lower end.
I have the Supra AFM mentioned above w/ LCE header, 2.25" all the way, Cherry Bomb muffler and CatDaddy freeflow cat. My power is decent, BUT it seems to really kick in around 3,000+ RPM, which is higher than your average street drving, at least w/ an auto transmssion like I have. I regeared to 5.29 and now it's *great*.

With 200+ Billion electrical parts, the world most complicated machine is inside your own skull.

Question Reality.

First question, with 33's, what gears do you have in the axles?
If stock 4.10's, then you're going to get much more bang for your buck in regearing to 4.88's rather than intake/exhaust mods.
This is going to put your engine back into the factory range of MPH to RPM's, making your truck respond better to your inputs from the skinny pedal.
Fortunatly, 4.88's can be found in a factory configuration (92-95 v6 auto) to make it cheaper to buy.
Hope this helps,
Todd

I am on board with changing the gears as well. I do have stock gears. The only reason why I am not changing the gears is because I plan on doing a couple of axle swaps. Right now I have an IFS ans I am going to do an SAS eventually. I will also swap out the Toy 8" rear. That will probably be next years spending money. One thing at a time.

I have a buddy who owns a muffler shop (He inherited it), so he doesn't have to much knowledge for me. I am trying to get some second opinions before I spend the money. But I can get the exhaust parts at cost.

Great Advice, I will take a look once I get a chance. I live in Okinawa Japan and haven't got to play with my truck for a couple of years. Is it tough to find the Supra AFM?

if you're looking for some extra "power" to the street, gearing down to 4.88 will go much further for your money than messing with the intake/exhaust systems. Find some 4.88 chunks and swap em out.
