Ok 89 trooper had a problem with the lock nut that goes on the hub nut, and i need to replace the locking nut, first question how does that locking nut keep the hub nut from backing out

2nd questions, doesn anything look wrong when i take this apart? The p.o had this apart before me and im not possitive what it is supposed to look like.

what are all the pin that came out that are in the last pic? is that wheel bearing?

if u see anything in the pic let me know what u see, im so lost here

Those pins are the rollers in the outer bearing. It's toast. You can see all of the metal shavings in there. You'll need new bearings for sure.

Also, it looks like you'll need to replace the disc brake rotor. Looks to me like it's got some nasty grooves in it.

The bearing sits in the hub.
Next is the hub nut.
Next is the hub nut lock washer.

The knuckle on which you threaded the hub nut has 2 notches.

The lock washer has 2 tabs which sit inside the 2 notches.

The lock washer secures to the hub nut with 3 machine screws (phillip). The nut can not go anywhere now because the washer is screwed to the nut and the assembly is held to the hub/knuckle by the notches and tabs.

Your bottom picture depicts the hub nut and the knuckle on which it is threaded. At about the 12:00 position on the knuckle, you should see a notch. There's one opposite that which is not visible in the photo. The tabs of the lock washer sit inside those notches.

Go to this website... http://www.myisuzuparts.com

Click on your model year, model and underneath "Component Type" click "Illustration Index" and then click "Submit".

Go to page 54 & 55... 'ya just have to keep hitting "next page" until you get to those pages... click on the picture to get a larger picture with part names and #s.

I just figured out a shorter way... just click on the following link and then "Submit" for the "front hub & drum" pic.
http://www.myisuzuparts.com/index.php

O.K., the links are acting up but one of those will get you there.

Did your truck have the hub nut lock washer described above on it? If not, that is likely what led to the failure as it would allow the hub nut to back out and take all of the preload off of the bearings. Not much time after that happens that things go seriously wrong. Take a good look at the bearing surfaces on the inside of the hub as well. If you just put new bearings in a hub that is all marred up, they aren't going to last very long.
