Last week, I believe it was Thursday, I drove to work in the Montero, about 25 miles, and back with no problems. Friday I gave it rest and drove my other car to work. On Friday night I jumped back into the Montero but it wouldnÆt start. The engine would crank. I pulled Code 12. Saturday it was a nice day so I tinkered around. First thing I did was to make sure fuel was getting to the engine. I disconnected the hose before the fuel filter and turned the engine over until gas shot out like a water cannon. While I was down there I decided to check to see if fuel was getting past the fuel filter so I disconnected the line right after the filter and turned it over. I got the water cannon again. I reconnect all the lines. I then decided to attempt again to start up the engine. This time it started. Weird? I let it run, idle, for probably 30 minutes to see if it would stall. It didnÆt although I did pull Code 11. Yesterday, I decided to drive it to work. The engine died 4-5 times on the way. I was driving back roads and noticed it died more when I was driving through residential or areas that had more stop and go traffic. Without fail, I was able to start it, without any hesitation, 5 seconds or more after it stalled. I went to the junkyard during lunch and grabbed a mass air-flow sensor for $17 thinking that mine was going bad. This didnÆt fix it. When traveling home it stalled several more times. Each time I was able to start it right back up, again, without hesitation. When I got home the code I got from the computer indicated that everything was fine and dandy (short pulses). So I started it up in my garage and proceeded to make sure the timing was good and check for vacuum leaks. I had to adjust the timing slightly and I found no vacuum leaks using a vacuum pressure reader. I let it idle in my garage for probably 30 minutes then decided to take it out. It showed the same symptoms of stalling and starting right back up. IÆm thinking that it could be the fuel pressure regulator but those arenÆt cheap. The one that is on there is brand-new as of my rebuild last October. Any ideas? I plan on heading to Harbor Freight during lunch to find a fuel pressure reader.
