My recently purchased '89 4runner 3.0 V6 starts and idles well, but has less power than my 22RE truck and runs a little rough under throttle. I haven't really had time to do any troubleshooting yet, but I noticed the the exhaust pipe has a fairly big leak in it just upstream from the O2 sensor. Any ideas on how likely that is to cause the motor to run like this? No check engine light yet.

I would think it would take more than a large leak. I had a similar loss of power about 7yrs ago, but the connector at the cat came loose, and the two ends separated about an 1".
More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else. '90 X-cab 4.88's 33 BFG AT's, rr ARB, Headers, Ignition upgrade, cold air induction. '91 X-cab 5.29's 315's BFG MT's, rr ARB, custom bumper and flatbed

The o2 sensor is vital & if it isn't seeing the correct exhaust gas mixture, it can definitely affect how your engine runs. The leak needs to be fixed in any event, so might as well do it & see if it helps.

That was my worry, that the O2 sensor is getting bad signals. Fortunately this is a project vehicle and not my daily driver. It's winter here and I have no heat in my shop yet, so I will be glad to start on this project again in April.
