this past week has seen me finally get a sweet pajero, a 1989 SWB with the 2.5 4D56T intercooler, but needs rear disk brakes to be replaced. these are NOT easy to find, and the 1992 mitsubishi rear disk brakes DO NOT work. i found a place in the UK called 'milner offroad', the link is http://www.milneroffroad.com/default.asp?c=123645 . they seem to have posted fair prices, and good inventory, but I haven't yet purchased from them, so will keep u all posted.

I think you need 1989 or earlier Montero brakes or the Dodge Raider brakes found at any auto parts store. The Gen II guys need the 1992 stuff.

AFAIK Gen1 Monteros with rear disk brakes are rare in the USA. Finding parts for them could thus be a problem.

Yes, Milners Offroad is my importer of choice as well.

89 Monty/Raiders had drums.

Milners has a good name - I know a few guys who have used them, with good success. But before you pay for sterling, and overseas shipping, have you tried the BC JDM guys? There are two that I've used: Maximum Overdrive, and Rocky Mountain Imports (google them, both are in BC). In my experience, both were great to deal with, and shipped fast. They might have what you're looking for in inventory?

HTH and congrats. Once you get this sorted, you're gonna love it.

What parts do you need to have replaced?

I have gone through the refurb exercise, so I could possibly give you some pointers.

89 and earlier raiders and montys never had rear disks - i've owned three of each, and multiple manuals. 89 rear brake parts DO NOT match with 1991 and 1992 paj rear brake parts, at least not L144G as they refer to them in AU and UK.

Just give the parts places Phil mentioned a call. And have your VIN handy - they'll use this to get you exactly the parts that will fit your truck.

thanks PHIL, been hunting for this for awhile! I haven't given up on installing the 4D53T into the montero, but it's on hold since I sold our last house, the one with the garage anyway, prices from RM were high, and wait times LONG! Direct from the UK, no fuss at all, guaranteed matching parts, [rear rotors L and R, rear calipers L and R, and rear pads] including 1 week shipping, $770CAN$, something like 420GBP? I was quoted that much for rotors alone without shipping, and was quoted $1300CAN for calipers [including core], and the pads were quoted at $125CAN. I am fine with the price I paid.

WOOHOO!

Parts came in thursday, as milners said they would. 408 GBP TOTAL, inclusive of shipping... parts went in yesterday, drove it [technically, the mrs towed me] home today. The vehicle wasn't warming well, and in a pinch, I ordered a 198F thermostat for a 1987 ford ranger with the 4d53t diesel. the mechanic installed it - said he had to remove the power steering to do it, and kept the old thermostat for me to look at - it was broken! luckily it failed open, but it was 1 tine from having snapped completely, and dropping inside anyway, the thermostat fit, but it still doesn't get that warm, the rad gets hot, but I am now wondering about the waterpump. anyway, she's plugged in [has a block heater], and I should be on the road monday. OH YEAH - got a great insurance quote from a local broker, and it's even cheaper than my current insurance. THE DEALS ARE OUT THERE!!!
