Qiuck solid axle spring perch to spring question. #920277 12/13/08 03:12 AM

I'm an independent front guy, this is my first solid axle spring replacement. I have a question about the spring perch on the driver's side. The centering spring pin hole is almost off of the perch toward the rear?

Does the spring centering pin really sit all the way back there? The passenger side is centered right over the axle tube, like I'm used to. I feel kind of strange putting that spring pin all the way back on the drver's side rear of that perch.

It's an easy question but I don't have an answer. Also there is a wedge piece that corrects the angle which takes up the space that the pin would sit in the perch which further confuses me because it makes it seem like that hole in the perch is not used on the driver's side.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

McQ

Often there are multiple holes drilled in one perch or the other. You should use the center hole on both perches to keep the axle straight. Often folks re-drill the perches to move the axle forward or back as needed, but in that case both holes need to align with each other relative to the axle tube.

These appear to be sock set ups, each with one hole. Passengers is centered. Driver's is slid backward to the rear of the perch.

So offset must not be proper. I'll slide the driver's side forward centering it with the center of the tube,(like the passenger's side) ignoring the hole in that perch on the driver's side.

Thanks for the help !!

Might want to just double check the distance from the front spring hanger to the center pin on each spring to make sure they are the same (should be around 22.5" on stock front springs). Might be one spring has a different pin location or something like that.
