I've been researchin the heck out of this swap for awhile. I have a good 3.4 long block but no ecu and harness. I keep searchin craigslist, ebay, and local salvage yards but can't seem to find the other parts I need. From reading the posts on this swap I've realized that it is important to get all of your parts from one vehicle to avoid a potential p.i.t.a. Let me know if any of you know of any donor vehicles for me.

Anyways, my main question that I could not seem to find an answer for is can I use the manual trans and t-case from an 01 tacoma in my '85? Is it a different length from my stock '85 trans and t-case?

Thanks mark, you helped me find my answer. I've been to ORS web site plenty of times before but have never found their faq till I just stumbled upon it after using your link. Here is the answer to what trans and t-cases you can use for this swap.
Thanks again!

ORS is no longer making harness'. I know this because i ordered the last swap kit on tuesday. They are closing up shop for an undetermined amount of time. Mike said they may re-open in the new year but he doesn't know what parts they will make, he said to check the site.

You can use the tranny but you need the transfer case from an 88-95 v6 5spd. (or a marlin adaptor).

And yes, you should get the harness with the engine, because they used different ones. What year is your engine? Many years do not have interchangeable sensors...

As far as we know, yes. We've had quite a few guys here just go ahead and download the EWD's they needed and configured their own harnesses, so it's not impossible.

The engine I have is from a 00 taco. However, I do not have the intake, etc. for this year. So when I find my donor I will steal all of the intake/fuel injection components also.

I hope I can find something soon, the old 22re is soundin' pretty sad with it being so cold out.

Also, since ORS will no longer make the harness, at least for now, it looks like I get to have some fun and make my own! Oh well, gives you more pride when you done it yourself.

Keep an eye on fleabay. I believe you can use harnessing from 97-2001 to get all your connectors and what have you.

www.techinfo.toyota.com $10, 24 hr window, download your electrical diagrams. There's a sticky in the Taco section for FSM's here too. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Once I get my donor and know the year I will definalty be payin the 10 bucks for the correct EWD.

Are these diagrams very detailed and vehicle specific or more like the ones in a haynes manual.
