Getting the Wheeling Fever
Its a 1988 Toyota SR5 4X4 Pickup. Now I have the brake light on the dash staying on all the time. We had about 2feet of snow in the high desert of California and now this has just started. I lost the 4 wheel drive when I needed it the most yesterday. I called a shop in Hesperia Calif at 11:30 am and was told to bring it right in and he would fix it. It was the CV Axles in the front. Replaced both in about 3hours and the cost was 495.00 plus tax. I was clad to pay it. When you need 4 wheel drive you need it.

Thanks Don

Check your brake fluid in the MC. If it is low the light will come to indicate it is low.

Not all low fluid conditions are caused by a leak in the system. The fluid level in the reservoir drops over time as the brake pads wear and the caliper pistons move in.

If you're running in deep snow, it also doesn't hurt to pop the hood and make sure your belts haven't loosened.

Right. But it shouldnt get low enough to set off the light.

Another "not-sor-dire" circumstance is that the seal at the base of the MC resoivoir can be leaking ever so slightly. I seem to be having this problem chronically, tried everything and it still weeps just a little bit... just enough to eat the paint off the MC body, and I have to add fluid about once a month.

Could you put some sillicone around the base of the res to seal it up?

It will if the front pads are worn enough and the rear brakes are not adjusted it will come on, believe me!!!!!!

Also if they did work on the front end maybe they did not replenish what was lost.

Yeah, I would have to agree. Fill the MC back up to the max level and keep a close eye on it.

Another thought, I can't recall if the brake light comes on if a bulb is burned out on early yota trucks or not. Anyone else know?
