I am having 4wd problems and was wondering what you guys know about the 89 front diff. I've always had problems finding cv's for the truck and it seems there are several types one can get for an 89 v6. All I can get in Canada is parts for an 89 4cyl. So I ordered parts out of the states. They had different v6 and 4cyl part numbers so i ordered them. They arived in canada thanks to a couple buddies helping out. They are deffinatly not 4cyl shafts when compared side by side. They are also deffinatly not the right ones for the truck still. It seems to be an 89 v6 problem from what I can find, it seems there are several different options in 89 alone. Were all gen1 v6's like this or just 89?
I have done some searching and haven't found cv problems come up with say a 91 so this leads me to hoping they dont have this problem. I know the right answer is solid axle it but I really dont want to. I like my ifs and I have a sami with solid axles already. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Thanks in advance

The 89 V6 used two differant assemblies. One is for the manual transmision and the other is for the automatic.
The manual transmission version uses larger joints and a larger flange on the passenger side.
You can swap in the smaller units if you change the passenger side stub axle. The drivers side should interchange without any issue.
It does seem that most of the parts houses have the CV PN's wrong. I dont know what later years might interchange. I rebuilt my axles rather than try and find the correct set.

I have both the automatic and stick V6 front axles and CVs from my '91 parts cars. Tag was in line for the auto, the stick has been slated for my Raider. If Tag follows up or declines, then I'd have the auto setup available. I'd consider letting the stick setup go, but I'll have to first take the stuff out, it's winter, and I've been busy with home and work things...my customer service isn't really hot at the moment. My humblest apologies to Cochese and Maki and Justice and...
We'll see what comes. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Thanks rxinhed, No worries on those parts. I've given in and am swapping it all out for Canadian friendly parts. I'm sure there will be other stuff in the future tho.
Also it is broken pretty good. I'll take pics when I get it all apart. Leaking all the fluids out now though. Phil has aproved the swap so I'm moving forward with a flipped toy diff.
