In the near future I will be looking for a 99+ Trooper for family hauling duty. It will be standard tranny equipped and I prefer it to be 2WD so I won't be tempted to mod/wheel it, besides thats what my 88's for .

Are there any quirks I should look out for???

I'm aware of the '99-mid'01 having a press in PCV valve that means it has pistons that can lead to "oil consumption issues".

Are any of them equipped with retarded systems like Drive by wire or the likes. Trying to avoid electrical nannies hampering my style.

If you want 2WD it will be a 2000 - 2002 Trooper. 1999 and previous were all 4WD. The 5 speed is rare in 2000 or newer Troopers. Searching Traderonline.com for 2000 - 2002 with 5 speed nationwide pulled up 1 rig. It's a 4WD with 166k.

1999 will be 4WD, but there will be more 5 speeds to choose from.

Good luck.

I just checked Autotrader and the closest one is in GA.

I can settle for a 4WD...just gonna have to fight temptation

Although there is a black one in TN

IIRC 2000 and newer models had drive-by-wire throttle control...though you may want to verify that year. I do know my old 99 did NOT have drive-by-wire.
