while putting my locking hubs back on I managed to snap off the bolt that has the large flat washer that screws into the end of the axle. I assume the reason for it's existance is just in case the c-clip comes off the axle or all the hub nuts fall off the axle won't fall out or the hub won't fall off. Has anyone run for long without this bolt? I will drill it out at some point but no time right now. I had set the torque wrench then used it for something else (larger) and forgot to set it back... It really did not take much to snap it. dang

I dont think solid axle trucks even have one. I've only ever seen them on IFS trucks. Shouldnt be a problem. I havent ran any for years now.

Use a left handed drill bit. There is a good chance that the remainder of the bolt will thread right out.

Yup. Those left handed drills are the best. Before using them I had miserable results with multiple types of extractors, even broke off a few easy-outs (then your dead). I have always drilled an initial pilot hole first then hit it with the lefty's. Anyone out there who has never used left handed drills for busted bolts, studs, etc, do yourself a favor and get some of these. Soaking the rusty/old stuff with Kroil overnight before really helps also. I think EB endorses this method also. 'Nuff said.

If the broken piece is not bottomed in the hole you may be able to take a scribe and catch an edge and un-screw it. I have done this a few time on the bolts that hold the felts on the knuckles on a solid axle.
