Getting the Wheeling Fever
Has anyone else noticed that you can plug an MP3 player into the CD input socket in the factory radio/tape player fitted to many Gen 1 Pajero's? I've been using it the last couple of weeks and it works great.

Roll Me Over
It depended on which radio/stereo they installed, but my 87 was the same. I plugged a wire from the tape input to the upper inside of the glovebox, where I put a standard 3-pin receptor. I used it for a portable CD player (pre-MP# days, but smae system) until I switched out to Mitsu stereo for a new in-dash MP3-playing CD player.
I found that the Mitsu radio would play the outside signal, but you needed to put a switch on 2 of the din-plug's wires to change inputs.

Any pics? I have an original stereo and have been trying to add this as one of my projects.

For those updating their electronics, consider going to a Bluetooth capable unit. I recently put in one and it automatically links to my BT phone whenever I get in the truck. Streaming audio without wires is very convenient. Plus I get a kick out of the looks on my unsuspecting passenger's face when we're listening to the stereo on my 20 year old truck, I get an incoming phone call, and the stereo switches to hands-free mode so I can answer it. Major cool factor. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/nana.gif" alt="" />

How's your audio quality? I've always wondered about that. My next mod to my corolla may be a bluetooth connection. I have streaming internet radio on my blackberry and cancelled my XM radio so I need to find a way to tap my car into that. I've been bringing back my old school CD collection anyway so I'm not too worried at the moment.

I have two radios with blue tooth and find the quality very good. Over here it is also not expensive to find radios, with CD, USB Stick, SD Card, and Blue Tooth for about $130.00. They are very common here.

It's funny I always find the USB/SD and bluetooth ones being the cheap junky brands at walmart before I see them on higher quality stereo units.

Thanks for the bluetooth heads up, I'm going to do some searching for bluetooth kits for my Toyota.

Mine is a normal quality unit. A cheap one here is under 70Ç. Blue tooth has been normal here for several years. One reason is proably the high price of getting caught talking on a cell phone while driving. About $100 and points against your license.

There is a USB Bluetooth radio at Target for $170 US that is ready to go out of the box. I really want a pioneer because I've had them in my last 4 swap outs and one of those radios went into 2 other vehicles. Problem is, Pioneer is "blue tooth capable, XM ready but not built in, you have to buy another box that plugs into the head unit for both XM and Bluetooth, I also didn't see that it would stream off my phone. I am worried about the noise, even with a remote mic strung up to about the visor, how is the road noise while on a call?

My radio is extremly clear when on a call but I do not know if there is road noise for the receiver. From my cell to the radio is very good. No one has said anything. when someone calls me the radio shuts off and the phone ring comes thru the speakers, push a button and talk, push another and hang up. Then the radio comes back on.

My radio is programmed to sense when my cell phone is near and automaticly makes connection when I get in the auto. With mine I can program up to 5 phones to the system. I have two cell phones and it works automaticly with both.
