I believe it was Christopher Columbus who demonstrated for all the world that the earth is not actually flat, though others suggested it before <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

The poles are severely stretched, so even a Cessna 152 will appear to be flying at Mach 30 or better if it flies across the poles on that map.
