Getting the Wheeling Fever
|
I have a 2.8 V6 trooper 91' the battery went dead so i charged it and even put it in my other car for a day of driving to make sure it was charged. It ran awesome but when i put it in the trooper it wont even crank it over, The lights are bright it has power to everything. Could it be my starter? I dont know because the starter worked good before the battery went dead!! Any suggestions will greatly be appreciated! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" />

Starter, battery cables, fuses or seized engine. There is a lot of reasons a vehicle won't turn over. Start looking.
Cables and starter are a good place to start. A bad battery will wreck havoc on a starter. Make sure to check both the positive and negative cables. If they look corroded or even if they are original, it is probably time to replace them.

Thanks for the info! I sayed that the engine wont crank but it will just really slow. The starter did make kind of a zinging sound a couple of times when i tried to start it also.

The zing is the bendix coming off the flywheel.
For whatever reason, your starter is not getting enough juice. This can be a battery problem, a cable problem or a starter problem.
I would get the battery tested. It is quick and easy. Charging and running is one thing, but you want to know if it can a) hold a charge and b) operate at a load. Then I would start looking at the starter or the cables.
Have you tried jump starting it?

I had the battery checked they said it is good. I have also tried jumping it but still barely cranks. I cranks like it dont have enough juice to the battery. I guess it has to be in the cables some were. It is just weird cause it cranked fine until i left the key on one day and drained the battery.

Was it tested under a load???
IMHO, the battery testing equipment in most shops is not sufficient to really tell if a battery is good.
I fought with Sears on a battery they claimed was good on their tester. I had them use another tester which showed the battery as bad.
If you drained the battery, it could take a charge but it may not have enough capacity to fire the engine.
Also, WRT cables, make sure you have a good ground connection between the negative post, car body and engine.

I had the starter tested it was good! I havent had the battery tested under a load yet but i will. It starts my wifes honda accord just fine, but i guess that v6 has to have more juice maybe.

Cables and starter could also be creating a much greater draw than your Honda.
