Lol.

Took "Silver" in on Tues. 012709 & the staff replaced the shaft. 012809 dropped off at 9 am and jeep was at dealer till 1:30pm.... Told they fixed issue & all is good.
Thank gm & state even if not fixed thanx for all your help.
You guessed it. Noise was back within a few hours. LOL!
Called on 012809 or 012909 & left message for gm. Never heard a peep. Stopped today 013009 talked to gm. Long story short a lot of the same from the staff. Appointment 013109 at 9am. Same deal. Leave her with us for as long as it takes.

Good news
I now have all new of the following:

Rear drive shaft
Rear u-joints (again)(LOL!)
Rear sway bar linx
Clutch
Flywheel
All other associated parts

At this rate "Silver" will be good for another 24K miles.

"Silver" was in today for the day. They stated that the rear drums and backing plates were the problem and therefore needed adjusting and lub'n. The issue is addressed. 3-4 hrs. later they began to make noise. LOL!

013009
Stopped by to talk to gm. Had an ok meeting. Setup appointment for following day.

013109

Girlfriend came into town & we took "Silver" to dealer for full day.... They believe it was the pinion nut and nothing else the entire time. Seems as tho the snapping, popping was caused by the nut not being tight and allowing for movement. This of course will take time for driving and then i'll have a better feel for if the prob is solved. I give the gm and his staff credit that they have continued this far. It's more then the dealer an hour away did for me.

Yikes! So the popping was the pinion misalingned with the ring gear? Seems there would be noises other than the popping sound.. But if that fixed the problem, I'd be suspicious of the geras for a long while..

Yea BJ,
Havent driven my girl enough to see if the noise is gone. Nor have I thought about the reason & rime behind the what if's with the pinon being loose.
Where abouts in the differential is the pinon nut & what if any damages could occure from the pinon being loose?

Here is bout what yours look like.. As you can see the threads are on the end of the pinion.. This end goes toward the engine and U-joint at the 3rd member.. So it is that nut that you either CAN see or ALMOST can see from a casual observation..
