If it was me I would be concerned about what else wore while that nut was loose, ie what was actually making that popping sound. That nut affects the mesh of the teeth between the ring and pinion gear, as well as the preload on the pinion bearings, as well as the contact of the splines in the yoke and on the shaft. If any of those parts wore due to the nut being loose, it will only cause you problems in the future.

After rereading this, I have come to the conclusion that when they changed out the u-joints the mechanics left that nut loose at the time.. I betcha the noise ain't gone.

Drove "Silver" for a bit tonight and all was quiet. Not a peep. I'm tried of the dealer for now, LOL! I think i'll give it a bit and see how she runs. If any signs of wierd behavior or funky noises/smells start she'll be there again...LOL! I'm on 1st name basis with a few of the people there now... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

I now have all new of the following:

Rear drive shaft
Rear u-joints (again)(LOL!)
Rear sway bar linx
Clutch
Flywheel
All other associated parts

Did you ask them to return all the "defective" parts to you? I'd certainly love to keep all that expensive hardware for free.

Sorry to hear your having so much trouble with your JK. I must've gotten one built mid week.

I jump it, pull stuck trucks out of mud and wheel the crap out of it as often as possible. Never had any problems.

Seattlegti "Silver" is a tj...This was the last year they made them and she has a lotta signs of what the jk was going to kinda look like.

It was merely a joke. Sometimes my jokes suck, but occasionally I hit one out of the park, so I keep trying.

I was figuring by now when those tech's see silver they cringe a bit. I must admit you seem to be long on patience!

Glad to hear the noise is gone and your Jeep service department went to such lengths to resolve the issue.
Way to stick to your guns and make them get it right.

Doubt my dealer would do the same. They strike me as more of a fluids and brake pads kind of operation.

I made them dig through the dumpster to find my K&N filter after they replaced it with a stock paper one at my 10K service.
