I was just emailed some documents for a meeting and it made me think... I wonder how much paper/toner is wasted by people printing documents out and bringing them to a meeting, only to be handed another copy of the document once they get there.
So I thought I'd post this survey question to see if anyone else has an opinion on this...
Sorry, kinda tired this morning, makes mind wander onto unusual subjects

One of my projects as IT Manager is moving our office toward a paperless environment. I just installed a Fax server that receives all our faxes, coverts to PDF and e-mails them. I was very happy the other day when we had to fax a government agency. The our employee faxed directly from her computer, then it went to the govt where it went directly into a fax server, no paper was used at all
We also have a service on our big copy machine called Document Mall, it's web based e-document solution. It will scan 50 ppm, covert to PDF and then catalog and store the documents.
After all that the number one thing that keeps people from printing is two computer monitors If they can't see the document on one screen and do work regarding that document on the other screen it's all moot. There is some study out there that says dual monitors boost productivity by 40%

We get emailed our workbooks and guides for trainings... all of which is available online through our intranet at any time.. but we still get a 10-15 page booklet which gets put in in the shredder bins afterwards because we are not allowed any confidential information on paper unless its under lock and key when we are not at our desks.
After regular meetings we always get an email follow up with the information we were just given, making the notes I took pointless... ah well.
Corporate office work is getting paid to be in a constant circle anyway.

What fax server product did you use? Does it distribute them to a single address, or to multiple addresses based on some unique identifier such as the fax number?
Thanks!

I use MODI a great deal. But usually I print out handouts prior- 2 pages per sheet, using both sides- so 4 page-ettes per page. I take them to meetings ad scribble notes on them.
Keeps me on track that way. With Modi I can highlight and take notes directly on the sheets pre-meeting. Then just scan them back in with 'in meeting' notes.
People in my field live and die via documentation. I keep it until I'm told to dispose of 'em.

Chris http://www.castelle.com/We send all the faxes to the secretary and see decides how to route them. There are OCR solutions and PBX routing but it was way more complex and error prone than a human. The Govt, they have one phone line per employee and order those 32 line fax machines for 25K each
