Getting the Wheeling Fever
I've got the chance to nab, for pretty much free, the rear end out of an 86 or 87 4Runner. Since I'm rebuilding my suspension on my 85 RN66, and fooling around with all that stuff- would it be advantageous to use the 4Runner rear? I know its wider, with larger brakes and all, but what else? And- are the gear ratios the same as my stock 85? E-brake cables and all that? Thanks-

Also a larger dia. axle tube. E-brake cables are of course longer on each side to account for the wider axle.

Hopefully, you'll be able to get the u-bolt plates, the steel brake lines, and the e-brake cables from the donor rig with the IFS rear axle. Some people install wheel spacers on their front axle to make the track width equal front to rear when they install the wider axle.
Here's a site with good info on differentials and shows axle widths:

This site shows you how to read your underhood tag to find your axle ratio:

Yeah-I can get it all. I asked my buddy how much for the rear end, and he said, "a twelver of Natural Light, and no less". So- I think I'm gonna just buy the whole truck...
Thank you for the wealth of info- That's the kind of stuff I'm looking for!
