Need a Spot
I Have A 97 Isuzu Trooper With A 4L30-E Trans That Stays In 1st Gear Only. Reverse Works Fine And Fluid Level Is Correct. Could It Be The 1-2,3-4 Shift Solenoid and if so where are they located in the trans? All The Lights In The Shift Indicator Work Any Suggestions? There are no codes either. Also Low gear works fine. I've so far changed the Trans filter, fluid and Throttle position sensor and still no change.

try pulling the plug from the transmission control box and see if it will shift through the gears manually. My old trooper had that happen and it turned out I snagged a wire in the transmission wiring harness while driving through brush. I don't know if your trooper is similarly designed, but it would be another thing to check.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
when I had a shift solenoid fail, I got an output shaft speed error. Both a dealer and 2 transmission shops said I needed to replace or rebuild it,thats what the fault tree in the manual led to (incorrectly) .

the fault tree was wrong in that it did not consider that the transmission was not in the gear it was told to be in because the solenoid failed, so thats why the output speed was wrong, not because it was slipping.
