Getting the Wheeling Fever

Tach reads zero at idle, then reads normal, then goes back to zero. When using the throttle it always swings with engine RPM, but sometimes settles at zero, or reads normal.

I have checked various wiring connectors at the coil and in the dash, nothing obvious. Bad Tach?
