Getting the Wheeling Fever
Replacing head gasket due to casting porosity leak into #3 exhaust runner. There looks to be a pinhole deep in the exhaust runner and the runner is steam cleaned downstream from this point.
Got 5 years and 90+K miles so I will not complain. Ordering new casting from Clearwater again and will be using the FelPro HS9116PT head gasket set for the 88 Starion as before. The head gasket looked great with no signs of damage or leakage.
Have a question regarding correct torque values for the head gasket. I will be using a FelPro HS9116pt and ARP head studs. With this said, I know manual value show 72 ft/lbs.But I have read posting here saying 80 is correct with the FelPro permatorque head gaskets and another posting saying with the ARP studs and FelPro permatorque head gasket they used 85ft/lbs.

Is there a consensus here what I should be using as the final torque values in my arrangement????

As always any and all opinions and comments are welcome....

thanks in advance

I used 80 when I did my clearwater with new head bolts. It's been over three years with no issues. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Had this exact same problem with my Clearwater about five months ago. Sent it back, they fixed, so far so good. Not sure how long the repair will last, but might be worth giving Clearwater a call. BTW...I have the same set up at 80lbs.

Mitsubishi issued a FSB upping the Ft/Lbs from 72 to 79. When I re-torqued my head bolts after the Clearwater head install I also went with 80, so far so good.
