I was talking to the mechanic that does our fleet work and he was telling me he used to replace 1-2 fuel filters every 6 mos and very few fuel pumps until the change to the ethanol mixed gas. Now he is seeing 1-5 filters a month and 2-3 pumps. Since most pumps are in the tank now it gets real expensive to replace them. The ethanol cleans up the crud in the tank and sends it through the system. The filter plugs up and the pump burns up trying to force the fuel through. You might want to see when the last time you changed yours and do it more often if the ethanol mix is used in your state.

Waste of time/money, IMHO. The fuel filters generally last a lifetime unless you've got something abnormal going on.

Maybe its a california thing, but every Toy fuel tank I've been in has been SPARKLING clean and new looking inside. No "gunk" to break loose or clean up.

There is 260k+ on the tank/filter in my T100 right now, there is/was 270k and 20+ years on my '86, and there was 230k on my '97 4runner too. When I cut up the '97 runner's tank, it looked like BRAND new inside.

Mine was full of dirt. But, I probably won't change it again until it's ten years old.

me2. Replaced my sending unit last year and redid the rusty outside of the tank. Guts clean as could be.....Considering where the filter is and the rust factor, I am not touching it until needed
