Getting the Wheeling Fever
Well, my oil pressure gauge was broken so I wanted to replace it with an accurate aftermarket gauge. At the same time, I have visions of turbos dancing in my head.... so I added an AEM Tru Boost for near future use and a trans temp gauge since I've been doing a lot of towing. I have a Wideband O2 to add, but I haven't purchased a gauge holder for it yet. Here is the results of the install. I still have to install the temp sensor for the trans temp gauge.

Did you use the same sender for the oil pressure gauge? If so, does it read the same?

It's a different sensor and reads quickly... not like the stock guessing gauge. This one has a digital read out in the middle to tell you your actual oil pressure in numbers. It also has LED's on the outside of the gauge to light up the area that the oil pressure is at... just like a needle.

That's cool. I like those <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> So the oil pressure is mechanical? Goes up and down with engine rpm? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Electrical. Sender is a pressure transducer.

Nice, but I like a mech oil pressure gauge. It can tell you more info due to response speed.

The response on the new electrical gauges are instant. Nothing like stock. I prefer electrical because I don't like having an oil line (or coolant) running inside the cab of my vehicle. If that thing springs a leak, you got oil (or coolant) everywhere inside your car/truck.

I found a nifty little valve from grainger that is a catastrophic leak stopper. If flow in the line exceeds the rating, it pushes a ball into a seat against a light spring pressure to seal the line. No flow in a pressure gauge line to speak of unless it pops a leak.

The other reason I like mech pressure gauges is that they are easier to read fast, and the needle movement is an eyecatcher for me that a changing number is not, and I don't think the moving perimeter leds would do it either. Just personal pref.

It's easier and much faster for me to spot a gauge with a needle out of place than it is to read and compare a number.

I found some fancy computer setup that I can have these gauges output their signal to. It will flash at me if something is out of spec. I can set it up so that it won't flash at idle, where oil pressure is known to be pretty damn low. I've got a lot of gadgets going into this thing in the next month, so just stay tuned. I may change your mind on electrical gauges :p

Never happen!
