I bought a set of Superlift 2 1/2" leaf springs for my upcoming SAS and v8 conversion in my swb. The springs came with 2" extended shackles and mounting brackets and the stationary end frame brackets. My question is, is there a reason why some set-ups put the shackles at the front of the springs towards the bumper, while others mount the shackles at the rear of the spring? I am leaning towards rear mounted shackles but want to know if that would be a mistake....or is it just a matter of preference?

Extreme 4x4 had explained this two weeks ago. Acording to them if you mount the swing shackle in front of the spring the tire will bounce away from an object. And if you mount it rear of the spring your tire will bounce toward an object. I'm not saying this is my discovery just what they said.

I've heard arguments for both sides, and I would lean towards shackle to the rear. The on-road ride should be better and performance off-road should be better too.
The only thing I can think of that would be a positive for the forward shackle is it provides better driveshaft geometry during full travel of the suspension.
Pay attention to your slip on your shaft and I would consider that a non-issue.
Rear mounted shackle has my vote.

Lots of Jeep guys move the front shackles from the front of the springs to the rear. It's called the shackle "flip" or sometimes "reversal" and a quick Googling will find you tons of info on hows and whys as well as kits for sale.

Thanks for the responses..... I am going to do the rear mount. It was what I was thinking of doing and your input has confirmed for me that this is the way I want to do it..thx...

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

This is an age old debate. Most go with the rear mounted. But there are those that argue that a forward shackle will aid the vehicle in climbling/negotiating over an obstacle as it moves the axle slightly forward during compression.
I would go with the rear mounted personally, just due to the fact that if you hit something ( ie a BF rock) off road your less likely to damage a solid well built mount than you would having a big honkin shackle limiting your approach angle.

Yes sir you are correct, I really don't listen to what they have to save, just something to kill time when nothing else is on. I love there unrealistic builds, even there "real world" build is not real.
