Hey all, been really busy with college (last semester!) so i haven't been able to get on to much. I had a quick question i wanted to run by ya'll and see what you think.

I've been tryin to inch every MPG out of my T, and so far i think im doin pretty good. Im averaging 19/26 city/highway runnin around in farmington and drivin back and forth between farmington and home in lafayette, colorado (400 mile drive, doin it on less than 3/4 of a tank!). now i have been thinking about a throttle body spacer, as i have seen it do a little bit of good on a friends tacoma x-Runner. he was gettin about 18/24 for mileage, but after throwin in the spacer, he said he gained a little bit of his low end back, and it seems to get about a mile or two better per gallon. i understand, his is a 4.0 v-6, so i might not see the same gains he is out of my 3.4, but i figured it might be worth a try, considering i'll be doing 50-55 miles a day for work when i get out of school. his is also the only opinion i've heard on the matter, so i wanted to get a few others. the spacer i've been looking at is an AIRAID, pn. 510-502.

I just wanted to know what ya'll think. thanks in advance!

Just easy drivin, a home built K&n based intake, and a good portion of the cat back exhaust off of my old '90 yota pickup, modified to fit my T. I'm runnin stock plugs, and 87 octane shell gasoline. That's about it. I'm on a pretty tight budget bein in college and all, but my parents are payin gas and insurance. I'm just tryin to help out, by bein nice to my skinny pedal

Im sure my exhaust is a a bit restrictive, shame its only about 5 years old from toyota thanks to PO, otherwise I would so remove it and do headers and a whole new custom job.

Im sure my intake is fine..

Im also running what equates to about a 32" tire, 4.30 gears and other junk. I also drive very hard..heh

Thanks for the info

Ya, im runnin stock 4.10's with 265/70R16's. their General Grabber AW's, which suck on the trail, but are actually a nice street tread, as long as it's dry, clean and warm. once any one of those factors is broken, i can't get traction at all lol

I have about 250lbs of gear in my toolbox, im sure the bos is about 50lbs too. Then I have some nice mickey thompsons wrapped up with 265/75/16 bridgestone dueler revos.

I do almost all stop and go driving and also am very rough most of the time.

If I drove like a grandma I bet I could get numbers like you, right now I get about 15.

i've got a pretty easy drive. 5-10 minutes at most to get back and forth to school. other than that i usually ride with someone else. let them waste their gas . when im at home though, i've got a twenty mile highway drive to work down i-25. other than that, i just go out on the weekends. nothin special. i do get a chance to take care of the truck a little better than most, workin at a toyota dealership and all. so that does help. i will say that the biggest things i see people bringing their cars in for are usually preventable, at least when it comes to their milage, and there is no reason to let a vehicle get into the amount of issues that come through my stalls. just keep up on maintenance, follow your service schedules and take it easy on your skinny pedal. i know people always say that, but it's true lol

I think its mostly weight in my case combinded with led foot syndrome.

I mean if you saw just how much stuff i carry with me at all times you could think I was nuts. 2 bottles mixed coolant, 6 bottles of oil, 6 bottles ATF, 2 brake fluids, gallon gear oil, wheel bearing grease, maf cleaner, etc, etc. Plus theres recovery straps, extra hitch ball, compressor, full tool kit, survival kit (incase I get stranded), hoses, jumper cables, etc, etc.

I believe in being prepared after I got stuck once in a monsoon like weather in my old F250. I nearly froze, had no food or water and no way of getting any help but walking in my running shoes as the cell had no reception. Since then I carry everything possible I can that I can use. And man more than once alot of it saved my ass.

Roll Me Over
19/26, are you going downhill with a backwind?
I hit 20.5 in my 99'4runner, 19.5 in my 89... i dont see how 26 can be done. I dont even think it's possible on a 4x4. the s-runner's (2wd, 3.4 5speed 2wd tacoma's) only get 25mpg, and they weigh 800lbs less and have way better aerodynamics.
Oh, and x-runners get 15-21mpg, anyone that says they get more, is BS'ing.
Sorry, i dont believe these claims, unless you have a 3rz...
BTW, throttle body spacers dont do anything, it's all a placebo.
