Can anyone reccomend a GOOD flashlight? #932500 02/22/09 01:28 AM

I'm working 2nd shift now, so half of my shift is in the dark. I'm tired of fighting with these cheap flash lights I have now. Every one I've bought keeps cutting out, and I have to smack it a few times for it to stay lit.

I need to throw down a few bucks and get something decent that will not act up on me. I was hoping some of you guys have some experience.

I need a flood type of light, not a spotlight. It will be used to light up whats directly in front of me. Needs to be LED. Preferebly run on regular sized batteries, but I'm open to a rechargeable battery.

Needs to fit in my pocket

Where can I get the best deal?

This site has a LOT of lights for cheap....

I've bought a dozen lights from DX and this is my favorite:

Accepts a lot of battery sizes, super bright with a useful low setting. Built like a tank. Bought 2 for gifts this Christmas I liked it so much.

Pick that up with a pair of protected 18650 batteries and a charger and you will be happy.

I bought the whole family the 5 pack of Home Depot Husky 9LED Alum Lights for Christmas (Stocking stuffers- They use 3AA BAtts I Think (came with them) All was like 15 bucks on sale. My Kids have been running around with em I have one in my truck and they are all still working. A couple years ago I did the same thing when Home depot came out with the 1 LED and they were junk-They have come a long way with LED technology <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Redbull, whats the light output pattern like on that one? Is it a small beam in front of you, or more spread out?

I don't know if it would fit your purpose but I have found the Garrity Life Lite to be a great toss-around light. The only problem is that once it dies it dies. They are not expensive though.

Anything from Pelican is my personal favorite. Their "recoil LED" lights are simply amazing. Streamlight also has some great lights. Both companies supply alot of the fire service industry. I was issued a Streamlight 4AA, 9LED. It's about 7" long, the lens is maybe 1-1/4" diameter. Mounted to my helmet. The LED doesn't cut smoke like an incandescent does, but it is great for providing good working/walking light.

Given the choice for the money, it would be either of those.

That one has a bright hotspot - but then has a wide spill area. That's why I like it.

Of the 3 I bought, one came with a slight greenish tint to the light. All were of similar (good) quality.

I use Streamlight rechargable incandesant flashlights almost exclusively. All 3 are rechargable. The only time they've ever failed me is when I've neglected to charge them.

They aren't at all cheap, at over $100 each, but worth every penny!

Adam, the Tacbeam Olights are frickin' amazing! They are incredibly bright, top-quality LED's, and a heckuva lot less than Surefire. Some guys in our Cruiser club got the $80 model and that thing just blows me away.

I use a Streamlight Stinger LED and a Blackhawk Gladius, the stinger is rechargeable, the Gladius uses C123 batteries, Pelican just came out with a nice flashlight as well (model 7060), all are pretty spendy though.
