So I put my 95 T100 DLX in the Toyota shop to get some routine things done and they gave me a list of things that need to be addressed ( their always good for that ). Anyway they told me I am going to need to get my brakes done (which I knew I was getting close too) and an Idler Arm. I am planning on doing this stuff myself with a friend so I just needed some help/ advice with parts (any upgrades) and a good place to get them (online). Also I know the back drums usually don't need replacing, but I have looked at mine and they are really really rusted, so I thought if I am going to replace the rest of the stuff I will just replace them too. Thank you in advanced

You dont need new calipers unless they are sticking and not releasing right. I have had good luck with bendix replacements myself though.

As for the idler arm I got a cardone iirc, but any major one should be fine like beck arnley, etc.

As for drums, unless you have ALOT of miles the insides of the drums shouldnt be rusted-if they are or they arent within spec I suggest bendix again, thats what i replaced mine with. Of course the outside rusted but the insides ok.

Thanks. They told me the Calipers are sticking so I think I am going to go ahead and get new ones. Is the Idler Arm an easy fix?

The total chaos one is worth it, but for me the stock kinda aftemarket was much cheaper.

I'm going to get a total chaos when i can afford it, the "new" one was tight for, 3-4 months, now it's just like it was before i replaced it. Def worth it if you can afford it.

"They told you the calipers are sticking"? I would be careful there. The pistons are meant to retract only enough to keep pressure off the pads. Pull the pads and see if the pistons move back into the calipers with pressure. Be sure the master cylinder cap is off and have something to catch fluid overflow. If you can press the pistons back in and the rubber piston seals are not compromised, the calipers are probably fine. Make sure you turn the calipers and repack the bearings while you are it. As to the rears, as long as the shoes are fairly evenly worn and there are no gouges in the drums, leave them alone. If not, replace the shoes and turn the drums.

Strongly advise turning calipers / drums with brake replacements. You don't, you will damage the new pads/shoes. And you may not be able to stop fast and on a straight line.

AVOID BECK ARNLEY! DO NOT BUY THEIR STUFF FOR THIS TRUCK. You will probably pay more than dealer retail for ill fitting chinese parts. They used to be top notch, sadly not so anymore.

As far as the calipers go, these suckers cost over $700. Keep the work the factory did! If a piston is really frozen, you will see the brake pad worn unevenly. You can unmount the caliper, remove the pads, put a 2x4 in or something and mash the brake pedal, and they should pop out.

My caliper rebuild - all at the dealer as a walk-in - couldnt wait for Carroll..
1 piston at $15
1 seal set at $25-30 or so (includes brake grease!)
and 3-4 hours to get pistons out, clean, grease and reassemble.

Of course if you are in a bind for time, dont have time to take them apart then wait 3 days for the dealer to get your piston(s) if you need them, then you gotta do what you gotta do.

I did the idler arm bushing replacement before I realized the end joint probably has some wear too. If I had to do it over I would just get a dealer arm or the total chaos device. Still, the $5 rebush made a noticeable difference and was worth every penny smile

If you are going to keep your truck for a while, original parts are a very good idea! Toyota owns or controls almost all of their suppliers, and you can only get this top quality from them. Aisin, Denso, etc., sell very little on the aftermarket. Stay out of the parts stores - unlike for an american truck where they can sell you original, quality parts - they can't do you many favors for Toyota.

If you shop around to different dealers you will get better prices! Get a part number and call every dealer in town so you know where to go when you are in a bind. And get to know our friend Carroll or some of the dealers on the internet who sell parts.

They seem to have some pretty good prices on stuff lately and if you are not scared off of Beck-Arnley, they are deeply discounting any parts from them. I guess B-A must be going out of business? They are selling the Denso O2 sensor for $69. They carry quite a few brands.

Buy some rebuilt calipers from marlin crawler, theyre about 100 each and they are rebuilt originals.
