Start looking for another ECM. There is some corrosion on the feed thru points. The likely hood of pulling off a repair like this is not good.
If you still want to try, you could use a few fine/small strands of wire to replace the damaged areas. Run and solder to the good spots. On the parts, the microF values need to be the same, the voltage ratings can be larger. Look for a electronics parts house, Radio Shack in your area might know of a local place.
Hats off for the attempt. One of these days, we might not have any choice but to try to repair this kind of stuff.

I have repaired that damage a few times. 1st choice is to rebuild an area with solder but if the trace is completely gone use wire to connect the areas. I buy my components from, http://www.digikey.com/They do have a minimum order size, if that is an issue there are quite a few other suppliers. I have seen the caps available for the car computers on ebay. Only issue is they have 3 caps where the trucks generally use 4.

Well, I fixed it. Parts: 2 caps and a little solid core insulated wire Total cost: $6.35 Tools needed: 30W Soldering iron Rosin core solder Desoldering Braid Suction desoldering tool 2 caps Time spent: 35 min. I cleaned the carnage left by the two offending caps, added a little solder to the remaining pins, desoldered and cleaned, carefully added the caps and a small wire jumper to the stripped PCB. My 93 2nd Gen is running right now without a hitch. I'm praying it works. Here are some pix of the job. Not the cleanest jumper, cuz the insulation melted a little, but as long as it works. On the bottom, the tools I used. Thanx to everyone that posted on this thread, and feel free to ask away on how to do this, since it's relatively easy and about $250 cheaper than buying a refurb ECM, even if you need to buy all the tools. ![[Linked Image]](http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/21529/Tools.JPG)

The joint on the left side looks pretty dirty. I hope it's not a cold solder joint or almost one which could lead to ecu failure down the road.
Let me know if you need advice or a primer on how to solder. I was trained in miniture/micro soldering.

The main thing is that it works. You might want to support the cap that is standing on one leg. A small dab of silicone sealer would keep the cap from moving/breaking the solder joint.

After a few trial runs, she started acting weird. She sputtered and cliked on and off the ECM control relay.
Pulled out the ECM, checked the 3rd cap for leakage, and decided to change that one as well.
She's been idling for about 15 min. now without as much as a stutter. I resoldered the weak and dirty spots, and fixed the hanging cap with a dab of silicone. Hopefully it'll last.
Just so y'all know, this is her 2nd engine. The first died at 168K mi., and a friend rebuilt the tranny in Dec. 2008., so that kinda tells you how much I love her.
If the ECM keeps working, I'm gonna treat her to new tires, body and susp lift, snorkel and basket.

Wow, sounds like you've found your true love. Don't worry. I'm not laughing at you. I'm swimming in the same boat you are! Glad to hear she's running better and you cleaned up the joint and supported the cap.

She's actually my second love. My first love is a 1st Gen '89 that has about 250K mi. on it. This one's really been thru hell and back.
I've crashed her eight times, and declared total loss by the insurance companies four times. A truck pulled her top off, and I rolled over down a hill about 2 months into my license at 16.
She gave up a few parts for the 2nd Gen, but if I wanted, all she probably would need is an oil change and spark plugs, and she'd probably run strong.
Even after breaking the timing belt at full throttle about 3 times, she's much faster than the 2nd Gen. These trucks are just about eternal.
I don't think I'll ever own an SUV other than a 1st or 2nd Gen Montero with a 3.0L engine. Hey, they use 'em in Africa as daily transport, I guess that's good enough for me.

UPDATE:
Took her out for a 15 min. drive. Running stronger than before. No hesitation, no sputtering, worked perfectly well.
I'm taking her out for an hour tomorrow. Hopefully won't need a tow back.
I'm not celebrating yet, 'cuz I just might jinx it. If it's fixed for good, I'm celebrating on Saturday by taking her for an off-road stroll to the beach.
