Hey Guys,
I don't know what your situation is on the 1st gen Montero/Raider hub socket. I have a cheap effective solution. I bought a new Old Stock KD Tools Ford Dana 44 hub socket for $10.00 on ebay (#3246 )it has 4 prongs. 2 of them match up with the 88 raider hub nut i have in the garage. I ground the other 2 off. It should work wonderfully for setting preload and tightening the nut down.

Working on those breaks, eh? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
Good to know on more options. Others have used GM 3/4 ton 6-prong with four ground off. On mine at least, you have to focus on keeping it squared and aligned or it will want to twist out. Not that hard to do. Cost- ~$15.
I also picked up a Yota mid-90s truck too that is two pins that match well also. it came from a clearance bin and looked like it could work, so I grabbed it. Cost- $3.
For the flush-wallet crowd, there is the Mitsu tool. Cost- don't ask!

A hammer and punch or screwdriver works, but you cant get an accruate torque reading. I did the hammer and punch thing about 5 years ago on my driver side after it got destroyed by salt water. Still no play in it.
I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

I just thread a couple of metric bolts (6x75mm) in two opposed holes and use a bar or stout screwdriver between them. Bends the bolts but so what? One of the service manuals out in this part of the world tells you how to do this.
