I picked up a set of Micky T 35x12.50 Baja Claws the other night, on 8" wheels, for $260. They have about 3/16-5/16 tread left at the most worn (center) spot. I'm going to swap them on for my 33" swampers before the next Uwharrie trip. My 33's are worn to about the same point. Question is how long can I let my tires sit outside before cracking and dry rot sets in? I'd like to run the Micky T's till they're shot, then put my 33's back on till I absolutely have to buy new tires. The Micky T's might last about a year if they wear similar to Swampers.

Cover them to keep them dry and out of sunlight.

Don't know how long you can "store" them. Check the manufacturer date code on the tire to see the age and figure that at 5 years, tread or no tread, get new tires.

depends on who is making the tire.Bridgestone,firestone and Michelin begin to dryrot in less than 2 years. some goodyears do coopers not so much .It also depends on the use like if it is a high performance tire it is more likely to dryrot. There are so many varibles it isn't funny.

As for the 5 year thing that kf6zpl stated some manufacturers less than that.I will let you in on something,If your tire starts dryrotting before the tire reaches full milage, or warrenty end (goodyear is 5 years ,firestone/bridgstone is 4 I think and michelin is 6 i think) whichever comes first you get that tire or those tires replaced at a prorate. for example if you had a goodyear triple tread (80,000 mile treadlife warrenty For 5 years) and 2 years later you notice it is dryrotted or completely worn and you only have 40 k on the tires goodyear will adjust them. meaning they will give you another set at half cost since you got half the milage out of it.

Thanks KF & Cuervo - I'll keep the 33's under cover for a year - that's about all time I expect out of the "new" 35's. No plans to run them till there past safe. Willing to bet if you spray them down with McNett 303 Areospace protectant before you store them they won't dry out and crack.

Works wonders on my 14' Zodiac. Going on 8 years outside it's still bright red and hasn't turned that sick flat pink from sunburn. I soak it twice a year with 303 and it still looks great.
