I need a new wireless router/cable modem for the house. I have the Linksys WCG200 and we're killing it now, have to reboot it several times a day. I'm looking for cable termination with wireless built in.

I have one wired PC that doesn't get used much, our Vonage router/ATA, a wireless printer, and 2 laptops hitting our current router/modem. For the laptops, one is primarily web surfing and email, the other is my primary - it's doing stuff 24x7 (VPN, VoIP, torrents, web, ssh, some SIP proxying, sniffing, etc). Web interface or cli to manage it is a must, we have no Windows here to load software. The router must support WPA and 802.11g, 802.11n is a plus.

If you have any recommendations, fire away. I've primarily looked at the Motorola SBG-940 Surfboard 940 Wireless Cable Modem. I think I want to stay away from Linksys and DLink this time, and am a bit skeptical of Belkin. I'd prefer not to spend over $150, but can go above that if there's a killer router/modem to be had.

Have you checked for firmware updates on the router? It saved me the last time my dlink router started tanking..

I'm a anti-wireless guy. To much latency and overhead for me.
<img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> It's all hit or miss with the home market stuff, buy whats cheap

I've had good luck with Linksys. It gives a little more control than some of the others. They seem to have a good balance between setup for the laymen, and some fancier stuff for an IT guy.

I bought a Belkin because it was cheaper, and the user interface was awful, and not very configurable, so I returned it.

(knocking on wood) Remember a few years ago I flashed a couple Linksys wireless routers with DD-WRT to use them as a bridge between two buildings? Still working flawlessly...I can't believe it. I also have a couple in a large area of our workshop, so that the nurses can push the dope cart around with their laptops for dispensing meds. WRT-54G models are what we used. All I can vouch for is them being dependable.

I'd love to use a WRT54g and reflash it, however it doesn't offer cable service termination.

Apple Airport works for me....

one laptop (dead screen) is print server for three printers and it is an answering machine.

one that is a web server

plus three other computers. One spends a lot of time connected to GIS geo-data servers.

WAP, .11g, and on a cable modem....

I second the Apple Airport. It's GREAT at our house. You also get dual networking. I have a home network and guest network running off the same router. You also get the wireless N upgrade with the new ones. $179 at the Apple Store. Comes with 4 USBs and one Lan port...
