Need a Spot
I'd consider myself an average backyard mechanic and decided to tackle the TB job myself after reading through all the helpful info on this forum. I was able to take care of the job in 2 half days without too many problems and saved several hundred in the process. Just be sure you have the proper tools and a healthy amount of patience.

IMHO, its super easy on a T100 because there is lots of room. More work on a 4runner/tacoma because of the tight quarters, but still not all that bad.
I've done 4-5 3.4L belts. The 3.0 looks pretty similar.

If it's on a 3.4, that would have to be THE easiest timing belt i've ever done. I've got them down to where i can do a complete timing belt, with a water pump in about an hour. The other guys in my shop are even faster. Just take your time, organize every bolt you pull off of it. If it's a 3.0, It's a little more involved, a little harder, but same priciple.

bolt punchdown in cardboard, esp if you're not going to get back to it straightaway.

Digi camera also helps. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Well being my situation (away at college). I think im gonna have to bite the bullet and get it done somewhere. I love working on my truck, but only when i can be on my own schedule. I also dont feel like driving home 2+ hrs to drain the radiator and other parts all the while not really knowing what I'm doing for sure. How does $400 sound for all parts and labor? (including water pump and replacement)

Doesn't sound too bad. I've seen dealer coupons for $250 timing belt replacements.
I'd recommend a factory water pump since they are high quality and come with a really good stainless steel/rubber gasket.

And since you mentioned 200k and wanting your truck to last, you might want to think about having them replace the timing belt pulley's while they're at it too. It will probably add another $2-300. Cam and front main seals too...? It starts to add up.
That stuff is the kind of thing you can take a look at when you do it yourself and decide whether or not they might need it though.

You might also want them to replace all your fanbelts if they need it. You can buy them online probably cheaper than at the dealership and then hand them to them when you take the truck in. Shouldn't be any extra charge since they have them off anyway.

buy the SST spanner to spread the tensioner and then pop the pin in the hole to hold it. if you get the OEM belt, it has all teh right colored dots on it to make sure you have it lined up right during install. i've done a couple.
