Gen2 Steering Box in Gen1 #937971 03/30/09 03:01 AM

Does anyone know if the steering box swaps over?
I'm making a list of all gen2-gen1 upgrades so I can do a pull-apart run.
I read a post on here saying they swapped over and that they made it easier to turn with larger tires and that it had a quicker ratio.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
What good is a forum if you can't ask good questions and get good answers. I thouht this was a tech forum not a chat room. Next time instead of being Mr. Smarty pants why not just be helpful so that this guy doesn't have to waste all night searching. He obvisiously has already searched and needs more help. Why don't a few of you spend more time being helpful rather waste time being Mr. smarty espcecially the moderater

If I recall the gen II box is a direct bolt on, but you don't use the top hole or somthing like that. It was months ago but I remember reeding that the gen II box makes a big difference when turning bigger tires. I hope I helped a little. It would be nice to have a compatability list of stuff that will work on gen I. good luck

Search is also your friend (see here.)... but you haven't been on here for long so I normally wouldn't tell you that.

If you are having a hard time using search. Let me know. I understand it's not the most intuitive for some but I find it easy to use our search engine if you happen to know the right terms. I found posts to his question above in less than a minute of searching just as I found what you were looking for.

FWIW, he didn't say he searched and didn't find it. If he would have, I would have helped further by pointing out how I found it quickly.

While I don't mind helping (and if you do a bit of your own research you've find that to be the case) I think most do give newbies to the forum a bit of leeway when it comes to finding stuff.

But having been a member for over 10 years with over 500 posts I figured he would have asked for search help by now or at least said "help, I can't find it", or "I don't have time to search."

Yeah obviously I already searched or I wouldn't be asking.

I found a couple posts about gen1 boxes LWB boxes in SWB and another saying the gen2 steers alot better and quicker than a gen 1. Couldn't find anything about if a gen2 would bolt into a gen1.
Everyone else, thanks for your help, I'll pick one as well as a bunch of other gen2 stuff when I do a pullapart trip.
It would be cool to get a sticky going with all known better Gen2 parts that fit gen1.

Not to be an but I agree with barlown. The search engine can be confusing at times. I finally found something that said to put + marks in front of every word and you will find all those words in that post. I honestly think some people love sharing their knowledge for Mitsu's anytime someone has questions no matter how many times or people they have told already. I know I don't mind anyway. I have no information to help with this post but I think some forum moderators can seem kinda rude and thought I would chime in too. I am glad I am not the only one who has thought this before. Even if your not being rude at least think about how someone else may take it as.

EDIT- I put the + marks like this +gen1 +gen2 +steering and I believe the answer to your question is in one of the first few post other than this one. I think a small paragraph explaining this should be put on the search engine page and would be very beneficial to many people who do not know that.

Well sorry if I offended you. No it's not obvious you searched already. I could have assumed that but I thought better of assuming something I have no basis to justify it espscially when I found a post within a minute of searching using your terms. If you would have mentioned you couldn't find what you were looking for then my reply would have been quite different.

Like most, I don't mind helping but simply giving you the answer without giving you the tools to find the answer on your own, isn't really doing you much of a favor.

Yes I know.
They will swap with some work. Check the hose fittings, not all Gen I steering boxes are the same. Yours should be alright.

That's a great idea. Why don't you two put it together or do a search?
