Then what I'd do is give someone else a great deal and go get me one I REALLY liked. Without spending a huge amount of time, money and effort you are pretty much stuck with what you have. Big Jim I agree. Save yourself the time and many headaches.

I bought this jeep last spring from an old man who used it to ride around his cattle fences and once he got done he parked it back under the garage. It has not one piece of rust and everything is in perfect condition. I just could not pass up the deal on a great buy. Now im just wanting some more power. A friend got into a similar situation. He bought a cherry 91 YJ with 4 cylinder and 5 peeed AX5 and was disatisfied with the power. He wanted to run 31" tires. I installed 4.88 gears for him and now he can actually use 5th gear for most of his hiway driving. Our highways have a bunch of ups and downs here. If it wasn't for that 4.56 would be fine.

Yup, those 4 bangers do great off road with big tires and the right gears. That's the easy answer.

with the 4.88 gears will that take away from my low end torque. With that question asked can you explain the difference in the gear ratio {exampl: a higher gears does what and a lower gear does what.

Your Jeep prolly came with 4:11 gears.. and 26 inch tires. It should run Ok like that. If you add taller tires you will have less power as the tires are harder to turn the taller they are. 4:11 means the driveshaft turns 4.11 times to every ONE turn of the tire. so then a 4:88 gear will turn the driveshaft 4.88 times for every one turn of the tire. So changing the gears can allow much taller tires and still keep the engine in it's power band. Some guys with the 5 speed have put tall tires on their Jeep and cannot use 5th gear ..at all..ever.. Then they put the proper gears in their ride and it wakes up again. You havn't mentioned the size of your tires. Big Jim

It had a set of 235 street tires on it when i bought it and i put 31/10.5/15 MUD DAWGS on it. What would be the best ratio for that tire cause i dont plan on getting any bigger with it. And i do have the manual transmission

I flew into an abandoned WWII airfield near Greenville once in a B-25.. As I remember the terrain it is rather hilly and a beautiful place. As is written above I'd be for the 4:88 gears. If you put them in there you will have a bunch more power. You might even start swearing by the 4 cylinder. What the change will be..you will be able to drop the clutch from a stop without dragging it to get going.. You will be able to leave it in gear #5 on the hiway. You will also be able to "feel" more horsepower at all rpm. Big JIm

Positively JUNK! Think about it.. If MOPAR could get ANY more power or fuel milage simply by changing those items they WOULD HAVE DONE IT! And prolly at LESS COST. The tornado is a piece of CRAP and actually hinders air flow. A SPACER under a CARB on a specially designed intake manifold can aid in filling the cylinder...but only at certain rpm which must be predetermined before installing certain thickness spacers.. putting a spacer under the TB of ANY engine can only hinder the engineered flow. JUNK JUNK!! Big JIm
