So I read ErikB's Page on how to figure out what gears you have w/out removing the diff. "Spin the tire exactly TWO full revolutions while at the same time count exactly how many revolutions the driveshaft spins. If it spins just over 4 times, then the ratio is probably 4.10; 4-1/3 = 4.30; 4-1/2 = 4.56" Well I marked the rim and drive shaft flange @ the rear diff and did the test 6 times. Every time I did the test, the drive line turned a little over 4 1/2 times when the tire turned exactly 2 times!! I'm soo happy! I was going to re-gear to 4.56 for my 35's that are going on soon (I didn't want 4.88) But it looks like I don't need to! I bought the truck w/ 33" tires and always thought it had GREAT power and torque for turning 33's! Well it turns out the previous owner re-geared and didn't tell me. So now I have a set of Toyota oem 4.56 IFS 7.5ö gears I need to sell. (I hadn't bought the rear gears yet, so just the front for sale) I will also put them up on the For Sale thread. $50+Shipping I also want to say; Thank you ErikB!! You have a LOT of helpful info, youÆre a smart man.

Nice...
So the moral of the story here is to check things out before you go buying a bunch of stuff, eh?

True. I didn't realize there was a way to figure out the gear ratio w/out opening up the diff. So I figured I would at least have the gear sets ready to go in, and if the shop opened it up and found I already had 4.56's then I would sell the gear sets and save $$ from not having to do the install. IÆve found that most people donÆt do the 4.56 gear install for 33ô tires, they stay w/ the stock gears until 35" tires. My diff is also open, so figured the gears here still stock. So now that I donÆt need to fork out the $$ on gears/install, I need to buy a Truetrac. ErikB's Diff page saved me from wasting more $$ and time.

Why not 4.88s? They are the perfect ratio for 35s so your speedo is almost correct. Mine is off about 2 mph, so with 4.56 your gonna be off a bunch more then that.

I'm not worried about my speedo being off. Gearing in my mind is for power/torque and gas mileage needs. I can understand 4.88 if you offroad more than pound pavement. I don't plan on doing heavy offroading w/ IFS up front. Until a D44 is up front, I am fine w/4.56's & 35's.
