Hello, I have noticed that the Montero SR for these years seem scarce, and yet desired. Can some one tell me why? What seperates them from earlier and later models? I don't see what the fuss is about. Geno

95th (94.5) was model year when SR became most stout and best equipped. Bigger engine, bigger tranny, bigger axles, stock locker, etc. In reality 95-96 years were some of the best for Montero, they were sold in greatest numbers. Later years arguable have better engine so by no means inferior but had far fewer sales so they are much more scarce.

The only years for the DOHC 3.5L. Larger everything in the drivetrain. Electronically controlled suspension...etc. 96 IMHO would be the most desireable year. Split folding center row seats, dual air bags, nicer gauges, among other things.

I think 94 monteros was the only year that got the altimeter in the gauge pod as well as both inside and outside temp gauge, compass, and inclinometer.
later models only had outside temp and no altimeter.

I have an altimeter that came out of a 93 SR. Compass too, but I have not powered any of it, so don't what exactly it displays.
The alti is only good to ~10k feet. Plenty enough where I am, but not for other places...???

Yah, right. How come the heated seats are only in the warm climate areas. Up north Monteros are only in black with no heated seats or mirrors. Bastard marketing. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" /> Up here heated seats would be a blessing in August.

Actually 93.5 was the beginning of the 3.5 dohc and larger drivetraine and those made before 94.5 are the ones with the oddball wide u-joints and these trucks didn't get adjustable shocks either.

Dohc 3.5 24v is 214hp, sohc 3.5 24v is about 200ish, and makes prettier music when you kick it. I haven't seen #'s on a 3.8 sohc 24v, tho. I still want to seek what a 3.8T with 3.5 dohc heads and about a 16G single turbo would do...
