Getting the Wheeling Fever
Has anyone used a mini starter on their 2.8 gm trooper engine? I am trying to find one for my 3.4, but am having no luck. I don't know if one for a sbc on ebay would work or not. I know that it is mounted on the apposite side. I also don't know how many teeth the 2.8 flywheel has. If anyone knows of a part number or where to get a mini starter that would work I would appreciate it.
thanks, kyle

Roll Me Over
I suspect that I may be the only one out there with a starter on the passenger side of the 3.4. It really isn't worth the effort.

The simplest way to approach the problem is to drill the driver's side and use the stock 2.8 starter.

For what it is worth, I am using a starter motor from an early Toyota 20R wit the internal case bolts and a GM conversion nose piece.

That also means that I have a modified bell housing to create an entrance for the nose of the starter.

I believe that I was the first to put a 3.4 into a Trooper in place of the 2.8 and everyone else (to my knowledge) has drilled the driver's side bosses and put the starter there.

If you decide to drill the block, PM me about borrowing a set of drilling jigs to simplify the process.

Buy a Trooper. You'll be glad you did.

Body Damage is Cool
Look in my previous posts , I did use a mini starter because of installing headers on my 3.4. You will have to drill the holes on the other side of the block , but that's not a huge deal , I did it free hand in about 20 minutes.I cant remember exactly what model the starter is , but its a torquemaster , and its pretty much universal as you can change the mount around.I just made sure it would fit with my headers and it had the right amount of teeth for the flywheel , and no problems.
