I agreed to take a look at my friends 01 Rodeo Sport (Amigo) after he paid Firestone $1300 and still did not have a running truck. 2.2 GM motor, 5sp tranny, 134,000 miles. He was on his way out of town when the truck shut off. He had it towed to Firestone. They replaced the fuel pump. He picked up the truck and it did the same thing. Towed back. Firestone replace cam sensor, timing tensioner, and another fuel pump. Friend went to pick it up and something was squeeling. They then told him the engine bearings were bad and that he needed a new engine.
This is where I got involved. I observed it start up. The squeeling apperaed to be timing related. I towed the truck to his house where it sat for two months. My friend was then moving so I towed the truck to my house and have been trying to figure it out. When I went to tow the truck it would not start.
I removed the front cover and verified timing was correct. I pulled the plugs, they looked fouled. New plugs, getting fire to plugs, injectors are firing nice and steady, fuel pressure is ~60 PSI. I have replaced TPS, IAC, Cam, and crank sensors w/ junkyard sensors (I know, but it was worth a shot). The truck will alomost run now. I get a second or two as I am holding the key over. I can give it some gas and get a small response. It dies almost imediately. It will do this for one or two times if I have the accelerator to the floor. Then I think it is flooding out.
Any wisdom? I am about to throw in the towel. I did not do a compression test thinking that it was running, it should be OK. I think I will put the gauge on it tommorrow.
I hope someone here knows what I am missing.
Thanks for reading!!
