Just having fun, but I'm old enough now to not be a 'welp'...
The first issue that I'm going to face is to try and make this truck Cali smog legal. Several mechanics that I've interviewed on the subject informed me that all the 1987 Ford products were FI, I'm a carb guy. I'm going to have to remedy the fueling issue first.
The second issue is the lack of body lift. I'm not going to hold my breath that I can get away without one, but I have hope...
The third major issue is the gravel driveway.

The third major issue is the gravel driveway. R- Just give up now.........! i've been down that road i would invest in some 1/4"ply wood or a couple of huge cardboard boxes, sorry ur stuck in cali, ohio dosnt even have inspections, but i'd love updates pictures, also one thing i have been figureing out would taking a wrecked 4x4 f150 and doing the 4.6l swap and take the tranny and transfer case with it. i now the 4.6 is wider with its overhead cams but it dosnt sit as deep and i've seen them shuved into for focuses. Well Good luck and dont let the stones get you down. T.

Having had mostly gravel driveways to work in, I've adapted long ago. When I had 3/4- and 1-ton, I've been known to switch service bodies and other large object unassisted.

Well DougL3NC, The Japs came up with the name Shogun and it was built with the Europeon market in mind, the Pajero is a grey import, over here in the UK, the new Shoguns, Challengers, and Pajero's nowadays are built for the europeon market, but even my one, its a 1997 3500, GDI Pajero is also a grey Import, but there you go, hope that this makes sense and that you can see what I was on about .

Well, it's now been a little more than a year, and I've had some forward progress with my V8 project!! Finally.
I picked up a free 302 block, heads and crank from a gent on Craigslist in February, just before I was laid off. The parts have been stowed in the garage for a few months.
However, my project intention has been redirected largely due to reading an article in Four Wheeler magazine. Some planets have aligned recently and I have been given a 1983 Dodge W150 rolling chassis with trans and tcase. The front D44 is not the favorite one, but the truck had been optioned with 4.10 gears. So, I'm going to mount my 6' service body on the chassis and saw off the remaining frame behind it, mount the crane-equipped rear bumper I have, reinstall either a 318 or 360, then cover the front with a black 2-door Montero cut to fit.
My logic here is the amount of parts I have already, the 133" (+/-) wheel base, an existing V8 chassis I have only to repower, and I'll get to make a Mitsubishi Raider in a solid axle fashion.
Thoughts?

I am the one whom voted NO, you are not crazy. We have seen frame swaps before and they can consume fewer hours than a driveline swap alone. Heck I want to see a true Mitsubishi Ute, as our mates overseas would call it. This would make a very usable truck.

Well, I voted you crazy. I think crazy is an under-appreciated state of mind. Drive on with your bad self. I pity the fool who hasn't delved into their crazy side.
