Getting the Wheeling Fever
When I am reving up around 4500 RPM, my motor starts to sputter and then smoke starts to blow out the front of the muffler. The ol' 2.6 will not pass smog. Im curious if this is a muffler issue or something somewhere else?

If the muffler has internal insulation (vs. just steel baffles), it may have partially collapsed, blocking too much exhaust at higher rpms and forcing it out before the muffler.

If that was the case, could it be what is causing the choking issue as well as the smog issue?

Take a deep breath, place your hand over your mouth, and breath out hard. Repeat.

Happy?

Neither is your truck's engine. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

lol ok, well I cut it off and it is still choking. The strange thing is it will only do it when air filter and housing are on it. When it is off it does fine. I have changed the air filter and made sure all the flaps stay open. I'm so lost.....

Haha I found the issue. There is a filter on the outside of the air filter assimbly coming from the SAS that was totally plugged with carbon build up. The book doesn't even say anything about it being there.....stupid book.
