So ive been thinking about buying a camaro ive been looking around and really like the 89-91 camaros with the 350 t-top or convertible. Im looking to sell or trade my 95 grand am to get the camaro (its my 3rd car i hardly drive) but anyway. What years do you recommend with out me spending 20-30k on a older one so lets say 71-92.

First off let me say, I'm not all that up with Camaros so I could be wrong here.

I thought all t-top camaros were 305's?

I'd personally go for a newer one, either a LT1 or LS1 Z28. 94 or newer can be had here for as cheap as $2500. WAAY more power than an old TBI 305.

Some LT1's locally

I like the older ones better for some reason plus i want a fixer upper cause im really hoping i can trade my grand am straight up for it but i also have cash too. i really like the 91 models though.

I had a yellow '87 camaro and loved it. But don't get that year. It's a bastard year. Parts were hard to find, a lot of accessories just didn't exist for it. The "Berlinetta" model was a luxury model. I'm not a fan.

If you are going for t-tops, be prepared for leaks. The seals are bad after being around this long. Stay away from the 305's because you will just want a 350. Depending on what you want to do with the car, you may want to buy a POS and upgrade it. Parts are plentiful and cheap. There are also plenty of F-Body websites that can answer ANY question you'd have.

Here's a pic of my first car. I wish I was still that cool lol

Surely you let it burn, and didn't waste the beer?

I do not recommend the new model Camaros if you are over 6' tall. I'm 6'2 and I had to roll out of mine. I had a 96 that I liked alot but I must have looked like an idiot getting out of that thing especially when parked in small parking spots. (When you cant open the door all the way). I almost had to put my hand on the ground just to get out. My own experience anyway. Test drive them to narrow your search.

Pretty much any Camaro after 1971 (and probably including 70 and 71) is garbage, not worth salvage. In the biz, we call them "Go Fast Rattle Trap". Pure junk, plain and simple.

The last generation before they closed the F-body plant(s) were no better. Gawdawful crap. I'm sorry to see they're bringing them back. Hopefully they can do it right (again) this time, but I'm not holding out any hope.
