after getting out of a mudhole, the truck just stopped moving.
i put it in drive, low, reverse, 4H, 4L, 2wd, 4wd, hubs locked, unlocked, doesn;t matter. it will not move. it starts fine, accelerates, moves the RPM guage and all - no move.
the shifter on the dash vs on the actual shifter is not in sync. the truck on the dash goes from P to R then stays at R instead of going to N then down it goes to D.
here is my diagnosis:
transfer case is stuck in neutral so no power goes thru to the wheels. i have had this issue where the t-case popped out of 4Hi and stayed in neutral and the truck went nowhere so i think this may be the same
checked linkage, actuastor works, tranny sounds fine, no idea on the fluids, didn;t have the socket for it.
thoughts or solutons or things to check?
the cable for the tranny is shifting fine, you can hear it switching gears. the shifter arm is grinding of sorts, i took it apart to see if there was a break. you can feel in the t case that somethying is moving inside when you shift the lever but still nothing.
i can get a used t-case which i figured installing is a good start
by the way my haynes says the t-case and tranny have to come out ande go in as a unit, but then i reasd that that only appliues to the 5 spd. and i just have to remove the t-case with those bolts that connect it to the adaptor plate....
i figure if i reinstall the othert one and it works, i know the issue is in my case which i can try to fix on the bench.
how big a job is it to remove a t-case anyway?
i just hope its not the tranny, but that sounds okay - ish. there is a whirring sound a bit now in the tranny which i'm not too sure on

here is a second part. i have had issues with my rear end ever since putting in the 4.77s that i always thought was a pinion bearing but i could always feel it in my t-cxase shifter. a grinding of sorts at highway spee3d when i let off the throttle only. at acceleration nothing.
this may be the same issue? also i did bash my tranny crossmember up a few years ago which pushed everything north. thoughts to ponder.
