Someone gave me 5 gallons of diesel fuel contaminated with about 20% gasoline. Is it safe to run this through a diesel engine if it gets diluted into a 35 gallon diesel fuel tank?

Compression ignition engines aren't made to run the more volatile fuel. Diesel engines are more suited to burn grease then gas. I wouldn't do it. Use it as a solvent for cleaning parts, or let the gas evaporate off for a while.
