The timing marks were physically checked and the distributor was OK with the timing also.
One thing about that distributor, is that it would be easy to think that the rotor is pointing to the wrong cylinder because the inside contacts don't line up directly below the plug wire terminals. When it was first looked at , it looked like the timing was way off, physically.
Appreciate your input.

The ecu controls the injector ground, NOT the + side, to lower the current handled. If all the injectors are open, it means a short in the wire from injector to ecu, or a short inside the ecu on the injector driver circuit.

If you can measure 12v (maybe 5v, probably 5v in fact) across the two injector terminals, that's the problem. Switch must be in run position. Also try it in start possition. There are two control loops in the ecu for the injectors. The ecu and ign get power from the FI relay in start different than in run. The ecu controls the fuel pump in run, but not in start. The ecu will kill the fuel pump in run position if the ecu does not see the tach signal from the coil.

Check the ecu for a fishy smell, which is a sign of leaking capacitors and ecu failure will closely follow, if it hasn't already...

The rotor will point to the wrong terminal but if you look under there are lines that go to the correct terminal. It's so you don't have wires crossing each other like the older chevy's etc.. did.

Thanks for all the great hints.
I sent the ecu in to get repaired and they said one of the capacitors had leaked(not visible from the surface, top or bottom of the circuit board)and shorted out the 5v regulator and caused 12v to go to all the 5v circuits.
They said the ecu was beyond repair, at least for them.
They didn't even charge me and sent the old one back at their expense.
I purchased a used ecu from Ebay and installed it and it fired right up.
The one I purchased was from an automatic, while mine is a manual.
When the mechanic gets the radiator and other parts put back together, <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> I will be able to road test it.
Thanks again to everyone who helped me through this

It shouldn't matter for the 1990 model year. Hollander info says they're the same. Glad it's fixed. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Quote
I was driving along at around 65mph when the engine suddenly quit with no fanfare.(no clunks, clangs, jerking, backfiring, etc).
It was as if I turned the ignition off. It would not restart or even fire at all whether I let it try to restart while I was still in a high gear(manual tranny) or with the clutch in and cranking it over.
The next day (temp was around 20F) it would fire while cranking and it sounded very flooded and it would quit immediately upon moving the ignition switch from the Start position to the Run position.
Spark seems good, but the plugs were totally wet.
It appears the the fuel injectors are constantly spraying fuel into the cylinders and not turning off at all.
Is this a ecu problem or a short somewhere.
There is gas in the oilpan.

Any suggestions on how to test or proceed would be aprreciated.
Thanks <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

my 91 did the same thing but with a little cough
turns out the crank broke in two
