Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hey everyone, I have an electrical question. 1993 Montero SR. The other day I went to start the Monty and there was nothing no radio, lights, ect. I then turned the key again and it started as normal. Then today I drove to the store and when I came out and turned the key the same thing. Almost like the battery cable was disconnected. I left the key in the run position and popped the hood and was going out to look under the hood and I heard the open door signal. I then went back and turned the key and it started as normal.

I checked and cleaned the battery posts. Is this a starter issue or a ignition swith issue?

Have any of you experienced this? Any help or suggestion would be great.

Troy

Exactly like the battery cable was disconnected, by corrosion. Some knocking around made enough connection that it would work, for a while, then the advancing corrosion breaks the contact again. Cleaning the posts and terminals should cure it...

It's not the starter, because all the other electrical stuff quit, so the failure point is the terminal/battery.

Check the Battery terminals for corrosion. Then check the Ignition switch. The Plastic switch in the Gen 2's wears out after about 5 years or so. You can isolate it by trying to wiggle the key, which will hopefully make contact, and engage the starter.

Ive had two go bad on me. I think My 95's is about to give up the ghost soon which I replaced with new in 2002.
