I got the Montero running, and its running pretty rough and the whole truck is shaking. It feels like it wants to stall out. I replaced the motor mounts when I was installing the motor, and the trans mounts seemed OK. I am wondering if having the distributor out a tooth would cause that? seems like it doesn't want to go over 3k. When I put it in gear it stalls out completely. I am also leaking coolent somewhere

no vacuum leaks, I recall Brendan having trouble with the O2 sensor before giving it to me. the montero runs for about 2 seconds before the CHECK ENGINE light turns on. and it really starts running rough. I checked timing 20 times now and everything lines up. How do I go about checking to see if its still working properly?

How do you check on a pre OBDII car?

Make sure all the connections are plugged in. The MAF sensor on the filter housing is and easy one to miss. The truck should run good if the o2 sensor is dead. Is the dist. lined up properly? Cap and rotor good? Wires and plugs good? My gen1 shook a lot with one cyl not firing even with good motor mounts.

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

I installed all new plugs wires cap rotor, I heard 2 plug wires click as I was installing them, but I cannot get the right angle to click them all. I will try harder tomorrow to make sure they are all flush and connected properly. I am hoping its something simple. Ive got some fuel lines to replace and don't want to piss around much more.

i know this is dumb, but i'm having a bit of trouble with mine as well. first thing my dad asked was 'are your plug wires hooked up correctly?' meaning the right wire from the distributor to each plug. just a thought. jack b :-)

Hook a voltmeter to the appropriate pin on the diagnostic connector (in the GenI V-6 it's behind the glovebox) per the FSM and count pulses of the needle. The FSM has all the codes and the instructions to do it.

I never knew this and wondered what that connection is for!

I am going to get out the FSM and check mine and my Son's tomorrow!

COOL!
